DRS Technologies Awarded Contract of up to $40 Million from Department of Defense for Thermal Sight
PARSIPPANY, NJ, JUNE 4, 2012 - DRS Technologies, Inc., a Finmeccanica Company, announced that its Imaging and Targeting Solutions Company (ITS) has been awarded a multi-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract with a potential value of $40 million by the Department of Defense (DoD) for production of the Spot on Target (SPOTR) long-range day/night thermal sight.
Based in Dallas, Tex., Melbourne Fla. and Cypress, CA., ITS will qualify and manufacture the SPOTR thermal sight.
“We are grateful to be able to provide this advanced laser-spotting system for America’s military,” said ITS President Todd Stirtzinger. “For almost five decades, America’s military forces have relied on infrared technology from DRS to execute their missions and protect their positions. SPOTR advances their capabilities with unmatched range performance in a handheld system.”
Weighing less than two pounds, SPOTR employs an ultra-compact integrated Dewar cooler assembly (IDCA) and produces a large, 640 x 480 pixel image. The system offers true see-spot capability in a single-sensor, single-optic design.
