NEW DRS RF TUNER TO DEBUT AT SIGINT TECHNOLOGY EXPO

ARLINGTON, VA, August 13, 2014 -- DRS Technologies Inc., a Finmeccanica Company, announced that its Signal Solutions business will debut its newest tactical RF tuner, Polaris, during its 37th annual SIGINT Technology Exposition on September 10, 2014 at the BWI Airport Marriott hotel. Former astronaut and physicist, Dr. Edward Lu will serve as the keynote guest speaker.

Polaris is a multi-channel VHF/UHF tuner that sets new standards in spectrum monitoring, signal intelligence technology, direction finding and beam forming. Its dual use technology makes it well-suited for commercial applications including RF interference detection and wideband spectral sensing. These capabilities are critical for emerging commercial cognitive radio networks. “Polaris is the next-generation of tactical RF front-ends. When compared to its Nanoceptor predecessor, it is a quarter of the size, has twice the frequency coverage and double the bandwidth at a considerably lower price per channel,” says Kerry Rye, director of tactical solutions at DRS Signal Solutions.

Other highlighted communications electronics products will include DRS’ next-generation microwave tuner, Sparrow, and its real-time spectrum analyzer, Gunslinger. “Customers will experience first-hand our latest developments in RF and Microwave front-ends, signal processing and software defined radio frameworks,” says Steve Robillard, vice president of business development at DRS Signal Solutions. The one-day event will be packed with live demonstrations of state-of-the-art tactical and open architecture products, as well as technical presentations including topics on open source software development toolkits and platforms that allow the convergence of cyber and electronic warfare (EW) solutions.

The theme for the expo, Detect, Collect, Defend, will serve as a forum for Signal Intelligence professionals to network and discuss current and future threats to homeland security, and to consider how DRS capabilities can address these challenges.

In keeping with that theme, Dr. Edward Lu, co-founder of the B612 Foundation, will discuss strides made by his organization to predict and prevent catastrophic asteroid impacts on Earth. He will convey the B612 Foundation’s Sentinel Mission whose goal is to launch an unmanned spacecraft into orbit for the purpose of detecting asteroid threats – an important first step in defending our Earth.
