DRS is a pioneer in the development and deployment of solid-state power conversion technology for Navy submarines and surface combatants. Variable Frequency Converter applications include Los Angeles, Seawolf, and NR-1 submarines and DDG1000. Propulsion drive applications include Seawolf, LSV-2, DD(X) Permanent Magnet Motor Drive EDM, and DDG-51 Hybrid Electric Drive. These power converters are designed to meet challenging requirements such as stringent power quality and acoustic requirements, high power density, but packaged to meet maintainability requirements.
